We love it when God shows up in a big way! We have been handing out prayer cards to our partners and praying diligently over all of our existing partners as well as praying over partners we are working with to bring on board. God is faithful! We have added even more donating partners! Existing donating partners have been blessed by prayer, both in person and through the prayer cards we have handed out. And individuals from our partners have joined hands with us and prayed over loved ones, situations, and just speaking praise to our provider!
As an organization we have made Titus 3:14 our mission statement, "Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.” As a faith based organization this passage of scripture has been a motivation for us to provide for the needs of those around us. We not only want to provide for them physically but also spiritually. Even if this means we do something as simple as praying over the food before it leaves our facility.
Matthew 5:14 states, "You are the light of the World. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden". As an organization we want to be a beacon of light into our community, a light shining so bright with the love of Jesus, that everyone around us knows there is something different about us. We pray that we can continue to provide for others, and do so with the love of the Lord shining through. We thank everyone who continues to pray for our organization, and we thank God for all of the many wonderful partners who make our mission statement a reality.
Well January was a busy month for all of us here at MCFR. We took on the challenge of trying to add more partners, so our organization can continue to grow and expand. Everyone here took this challenge very seriously and began trying to round up new partners right away. So far we have added on another DJ'S Hotdogs location off of Emerson, Hotcakes Emporium in Avon and Klosterman Bakery in Beech Grove. We have also brought on a new receiving partner. Everyone here is still fervently working on retrieving more partners, and we can't wait to see how many more we can bring on by the end of February. Continue to pray for all of us here at MCFR, that we will continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We want nothing more than to help all those who need help in our community and to shine the light of Jesus everywhere we go.
Last year, at MCFR, we decided to embark on a new adventure, which was serving free lunches to 4 locations in Mooresville, Monday-Friday, in June and July. We weren’t exactly sure what to expect, but knew that this would be an opportunity to feed both children and elderly people in the area. With the help of our 6 staff members and countless volunteers we somehow managed to pull of the summer lunch program last year.
So this year we decided that we had to host this again. However this year we opened 5 sites up to the public, in hopes that we would reach more than last year. In the first 3 weeks of the feed we have served over 2,562 meals to families here in Mooresville. We hope that as the summer continues that we can continue to serve more families here in the community and be able to share with them the love of the Lord. We feel incredibly blessed that God has allowed the doors to open on this project, and we hope that it will continue to bless those in our community.
Last week, we here at M.C.F.R., had the privilege of serving free meals at three locations. We decided to serve last week seeing how Mooresville schools where on Spring Break, and we feared many of the children who receive free or reduced meals would have a hard time finding consistent meals. We were blessed to be able to do this over summer break last year and form relationships with families at each location, which made doing feeds over Fall, Christmas and Spring breaks much easier. Each location had about 20-30 people show up daily which is a win in our books. We look forward to the Summer Feed, as serving others in the name of Christ is something that brings all of us here at M.C.F.R. incredible joy and satisfaction.
As the summer winds down we want to take a moment to reflect on the summer lunch program we were so fortunate to be a part of. If you would have told me a year and a half ago how many people struggle, and I mean truly struggle, here in Mooresville I most likely wouldn’t have believed you. Honestly, I knew people had struggles but I had no idea the amount of poverty or how many people barely skim by month to month. So when we were presented with the idea to do a free daily lunch for children and adults we knew we couldn’t pass it up. We decided to choose four locations where we knew people were in need.
As the first week began we all knew we had made the right choice. It was amazing the amount of people who came daily to grab a free lunch. For so many this free meal allowed them to save extra money throughout the summer months. This could be money for bills, school supplies and clothes, or allow them to actually afford three meals daily. As the summer progressed we knew that we in fact were the ones being blessed by those who we were coming in contact with daily. Our staff quickly grew attached to specific families and children who touched our hearts, and showed us what true joy and happiness is.
We were also beyond blessed by the volunteers we had this summer. We literally couldn’t have pulled this off this summer without them. They did anything from prepping the next day’s meals to interacting with the families and children coming up for lunch. The volunteers committed a day or multiple days a week to help us pull this off and we all are eternally grateful to all who donated their time and energy. God is doing big things here in Mooresville and Morgan County, and we feel honored to be able to play just a small role in it.
This week Morgan County Food Rescue embarked on an exciting new journey. We started a summer lunch feed program, where we offer free lunches to children in the Mooresville area. We currently have four (4) open sites, where we offer complete balanced meals to any child who can comes to the location. We felt that the Lord was leading us as a staff to do this summer feed. We started this journey Monday, and let me just say, it was more than a little scary for us as a staff. We were unsure of how many would show up, if any volunteers would actually come and if we were even qualified to do this.
